Victoria University of Wellington School of Economics and the Chair of the Economics of Disasters are soliciting scholarship applications for doctoral studies on the Economics of DRR.
The focus of the posistion is on the research and application of economics and public policy insights to the management of natural and other disasters. There is a general lack of expertise and understanding, worldwide, of the economic implications of natural and other disasters
This was clearly demonstrated close to home after the Canterbury earthquakes, but also after the 11/9 Twin Towers attacks, Boxing Day tsunami in 2004, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Sichuan earthquake and Cyclone Nargis in 2008, the Japan tsunami and Fukushima nuclear disaster of 2011, as well as health-related disasters such as SARS and H1N1 epidemics.
Applications are welcome form graduates holding a master degree in Economics or related disciplines that includes significant studies in Economics.
Selection is based on academic qualifications and on the applicants potential to succeed. Applications are reviewed three times a year with deadline on March 1st, July 1st, and November 1st.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
