The world is underestimating the economic effects of climate change by trillions of dollars, according to a new study.
New research shows how the vulnerability of older people to extreme temperatures varies, and that it is influenced by financial, physical, and social factors.
New research reveals that there has been a two- to three-fold increase in the average frequency and duration of UK heatwaves since 1878. Using observations of daily temperatures and a new and independent verification for climate models, the research finds that week-long heatwaves seen on average every five years would now typically exceed 28°C.
New research finds that the cost of heating and cooling the home and increasing social isolation are significant factors in the health risk of older adults in extreme temperatures. The study also reveals a range of opportunities for enhancing adaptation strategies, drawing on assets and strategies that seniors would welcome.
The Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies in collaboration with the Warwick Institute for the Science of Cities is organising a workshop to promote the work that is currently being held across different departments of the University on disast
Social media can warn us about extreme weather events before they happen – such as hurricanes, storms and floods – according to new research by the University of Warwick. Key words and photos on social media can signal developing risks – like water levels rising before a flood.
This conference aims to bring together researchers and practitioners in Emergency Response and Humanitarian Disasters who are interested in Social Media and/or Semantic Technologies.
Voluntary Commitments
The organization has no registered commitments.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
