Identification and analysis of uncertainty in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation in South and Southeast Asia
This publication focuses on planning and implementing Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation policies and practices in environments of uncertainty, at the community level in South and Southeast Asia. The authors have found that uncertainty can be significantly reduced through:
- the availability and accessibility of local level data on climate, demography, gender, infrastructure and population;
- the inclusion and improvement of contextual analysis in local and national development plans;
- the communication of vulnerabilities to present climate variability and climate change in a meaningful way;
- addressing risk communication hampered by different perceptions of risk across different cultures and languages;
- the availability of guidance on dealing with uncertainty.
