UN General Assembly resolution: Implementation of United Nations environmental conventions - advance unedited copy
This document is the report of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change on the work of the Conference of the Parties to the General Assembly at its sixty-fifth session. It contains the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of resolution 64/202 and the implementation of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification in those Countries Experiencing Serious Drought and/or Desertification particularly in Africa, which presents partnership agreements between the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) and the secretariat of the UNCCD: (i) for an emerging joint work programme with UNDP on drought; (ii) for a framework for collaborating on reducing the vulnerability of communities to drought-related risk and to expand networks that will advance the prevention of drought-associated disasters through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in May 2010; and (iii) for a joint proposal on the needs for a Global Drought Portal that would enhance national capabilities to monitor various kinds of drought and would generate the data needed to evaluate the regional climatic variations and drought and to monitor the status and trends in drylands biodiversity and land degradation, as well as, seasonal to inter-annual climate predictions to mitigate the effects of drought, together with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
