The global partnership for development at a critical juncture

Millennium Development Goal 8 - Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Gap Task Force report 2010:

The 2010 issue of the report identifies the implementation gaps in the commitments made under MDG 8 and provides recommendations on how to address them, on strengthening the global partnership, and ultimately supporting developing countries in achieving the MDGs. It includes important references and recommendations on disaster risk reduction. For example it recommends the international community to increase development assistance to support developing countries, vulnerable to natural hazards, in adopting disaster risk reduction programmes as part of national development strategies (executive summary pages xvii-xviii).

The section entitled 'Access to know-how for disaster risk reduction' (pages 79-80) emphasizes the long-term benefits of disaster risk reduction measures and the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015. It also highlights the importance of access to information and communication technologies (ICT) and private sector partnerships, in order to build resilience to natural hazards.
