Earthquake resistant housing: technical brief

This technical brief intends to alleviate the problem of earthquake vulnerability by introducing an improved earthquake resistant building technology using 'improved quincha' – a timber and lattice frame design with an earth infill – based on traditional technologies, that was successfully employed in the Alto Mayo region of Peru following a devastating earthquake in 1990.

This technical brief is based on the booklet Earthquake Resistant Housing in Peru written by Lucky Lowe and produced by ITDG (now Practical Action) in 1997.
