Trust fund for tsunami, disaster and climate preparedness strategy 2025-2030
The ESCAP Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Tsunami, Disaster and Climate Preparedness represents a regional commitment to strengthening early warning systems in Asia and the Pacific. This document sets out the Trust Fund's strategy for 2025-2030. Asia and the Pacific is the most disaster-impacted region in the world and home to 4.7 billion people. Strengthening multi-hazard early warning systems remain a top adaptation priority for protecting all individuals, and critical infrastructure and assets.
This Strategy outlines the global and regional commitment to effectively and efficiently allocate pooled funds to high-risk, low-capacity countries and facilitate South-South and triangular cooperation, aiming to catalyse coordinated, regional action to create transboundary synergies in early warning systems. The four following outcomes are expected from the Trust Fund:
- National capacities are increased, enabling effective utilization of early warning systems (EWS) to generate and communicate actionable early warnings.
- Innovative solutions for transboundary disaster risks and climate hazards are shared and implemented across high-disaster risk, low-capacity countries.
- Local governments, communities, critical sectors and institutions have the preparedness resources, mandates and tools to take early actions.
- Coverage of multi-hazard EWS is extended multidimensionally across a range of disasters and geographies and exposed populations.
