From observation to understanding: rethinking geological hazard research in an era of advanced technologies
This paper calls for a rethinking of geological hazard research within its currently evolving landscape, pivoting towards the new era of advanced technologies. As anthropogenic processes continue, hazards are becoming increasingly interconnected, characterised by multi-source interactions, spatial-temporal clustering, and cascading evolution. In this evolving landscape, traditional disaster research and management paradigms are lagging behind. This perspective is examined and exemplified though a collection of articles.
This paper believes the key is a paradigm transformation driven by technological advances. With the introduction of advanced technologies - including artificial intelligence (AI), remote sensing, and digital twins - we can shift to new, intelligent, technology-enabled frameworks. The collection I shopped to be of use and value for researchers, engineers, and practitioners - both directly in disaster management, and its adjacent fields.
