Declaration of the Women’s Network of the Americas and the Caribbean for Disaster Risk Reduction in the framework of the VIII Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction
This political-technical statement reflects the voices, realities, and proposals of LAC women to advance toward a more just, resilient, and inclusive region, within the framework of the Network's participation in the VIII Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2025).
The Declaration represents the formal and consolidated outcome of a collective co-creation process, in which the Women's Network demand:
- The immediate implementation of the Sendai Gender Action Plan as a historical debt to the women of the region.
Furthermore, the Network proposes, among other issues, that the GP2025 motto —Every day counts— be translated into concrete mechanisms such as:
- The creation of a Regional Gender and Disaster Risk Reduction Observatory led by civil society, to promote accountability, connect experiences, and monitor the fulfillment of commitments under the Sendai Framework and its Gender Action Plan.
- Direct, transparent, sustained, and accountable funding for women’s organizations in all their diversity, to strengthen their technical, political, and organizational capacities for climate and disaster risk reduction.
