Community-based disaster risk reduction

This issue of the ADPC newsletter addresses community-based disaster risk reduction (CBDRR) as a crucial element in promoting a “culture of prevention” and creating safer communities. It encourages a reciprocal approach, whereby communities compliment existing national disaster management directives whilst obtaining national commitment, support and resources in return. It advocates for strong national policy frameworks to support and scale-up CBDRR, especially in the context of global climate change, and for the reinforcement and mainstreaming of CBDRR concepts into socio-economic development process by the Governments and social mobilization processes engaging rural and urban youths in education and awareness raising campaigns.
