Cost of extreme weather due to climate change is severely underestimated

New research finds that common approaches substantially underestimate the costs of climate change. The studies suggest that event attribution techniques can be applied to form a kind of “bottom-up” check on those estimates.

World population facing water stress could ‘double’ by 2050 as climate warms

Study finds, water stress could double by 2050 if efforts are not made to keep global warming below 2C above pre-industrial levels and future population growth is high.

Major tropical cyclones have become ‘15% more likely’ over past 40 years

New research shows tropical cyclone intensification rates are increasing, and that the damage from storms disproportionately affects disadvantaged nations.

Guest post: Are UK floods becoming worse due to climate change?

Exceptional flooding marks parts of the UK following storms Ciara and Dennis, with wider trends linked to climate change as human-caused warming exacerbates flood risk.

In-depth: Understanding the impacts of changing Arctic storms

Research suggests arctic storms, with their high winds that break sea ice and create swelling waves, could affect future ice loss and influence mid-latitude weather.

Voluntary Commitments

The organization has no registered commitments.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
