Nighttime light data reveal how flood protection shapes human proximity to rivers

This study aims to improve the understanding of the spatiotemporal changes of flood risk by determining the way in which humans adapt and respond to flood events. One adaptation option consists of resettling away from flood-prone areas to prevent or

Estimation of the maximum annual number of North Atlantic tropical cyclones using climate models

This paper examines tropical cyclone formation to determine whether the record number of tropical cyclones in the 2005 Atlantic season is close to the maximum possible number for the present climate of that basin, using climate model simulations.

Unprecedented climate events: Historical changes, aspirational targets, and national commitments

This study finds that humans have already increased the probability of historically unprecedented hot, warm, wet, and dry extremes, including over 50 to 90% of North America, Europe, and East Asia. Emissions consistent with national commitments are likely

Countries most affected by weather disasters do not spend more on weather services

Countries hit hardest by weather-related disasters do not necessarily spend more on commercial weather and climate information services that assist in preparing for these events, a new study finds. Identifying these countries and improving the design and delivery of weather and climate services in these locations could lead to better decision-making regarding risks and challenges.

Voluntary Commitments

The organization has no registered commitments.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
