About
The annual UKADR (UK Alliance for Disaster Research) conference will this year take place 4-5 September 2025 at Durham University and is titled “Pathways to Practice and Resilience: UK Interdisciplinary Hazard and Disaster Research on the National and Global Stage”.
Hosted in the historic and beautiful city of Durham by the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR), this two-day event will bring together researchers, pracademics, policymakers, third sector partners, and early-career scholars to explore the pathway from knowledge to resilience and practice – a unique opportunity to engage with UK researchers shaping the future of disaster risk and resilience.
Themes span dynamic risk and climate, multi-hazard interactions, urban resilience, human-made and technological hazards, science-policy-public interfaces, and emerging tools such as AI, serious games, and remote sensing. The conference encourages UK disaster research and practice across diverse contexts, from the Global South to the UK.
All of the conference formats are designed to foster dialogue and networking across disciplines and sectors and include interactive panels, rapid-fire pop-up talks, breakout discussions, and dedicated poster/idea wall sessions. Registration costs (includes lunches, tea breaks, ice breaker): £125 standard rate for two days, £80 for students without grants.
