Risk and resilience in the face of disasters: Prepare and protect your business
Overview
Businesses today, wherever they are based, face a growing risk of interruption to services and activities due to an increase in natural and man-made disasters. This one-day course will help the participant's business or organisation to prepare for a major disruptive incident, e.g. a flood, structural damage, or terrorist attack. It will look at how a business can survive in the immediate aftermath of such an incident and how it can become more resilient.
It will help the participant to:
- understand the nature of these risks and how to make a business more resilient;
- plan for emergencies, plan how to continue your service and protect the business's reputation in the event of such an incident.
The multidisciplinary nature of disaster risk affects a range of industry sectors in both private and public organisations. This course addresses the global challenge and emerging international focus on risk and its multifaceted nature. It also explores cutting-edge solutions to reducing risk in disastrous situations, and how to increase resilience across the world.
This course is based on the latest research and academic advances in understanding disaster risk, resilience and business continuity. The participant will learn from world-leading researchers experienced in advising national and international organisations on how to make your business resilient. The participant will have an opportunity to learn from real case studies and to analyse and plan for a real case that can inform your specific business needs. The workshop format also creates a perfect platform for networking and informal discussions.
Course structure
This one-day intensive course includes a combination of lectures and group discussions. There will be a hands-on workshop allowing the participant to take part in an exercise on resilience in a practical scenario. Through active engagement the participant will learn skills that will inform your own approach in the workplace. The participant will also have access to an online environment where reading materials, recordings of the lectures and further resources may be accessed. The participant will receive a UCL certificate of participation on completing the course.
