The case for resilient recovery is well supported by evidence and commitments. Yet, while the building blocks of good ideas and practice already exist, what is required is a concerted effort to pull together the best capabilities of disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, emergency response, and development action.
This webinar will mark the launch of the Aliance’s upcoming report on resilient recovery and aligns with this year’s International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and the theme of fighting inequality for a resilient future. The report looks at the underlying principles, frameworks, and financing mechanisms that are needed to help countries integrate resilience into recovery and build back better following a disaster. As the impacts of climate change accelerate and communities are faced with devastating impacts, resilient recovery has become a vital necessity.
This event aims to create a dialogue between stakeholders from the local to the global level on a topic in line with the upcoming COP28 Presidency priorities and the first of its kind ‘relief, recovery and peace day’. The discussion will focus on breaking the cycle of disaster and growing inequality and stress the importance of prioritizing and pre-planning resilience recovery, to ensure affected populations are able to face climate threats now, and in the future.

- Barbara Rosen Jacobson, Mercy Corps – Barbara will welcome attendees and provide the introductory remarks.
- Ronald Jackson, UNDP – Ronald will provide the opening remarks on the importance of better integrating resilience recovery in decision making.
- Dr Karen MacClune, ISET – Karen will present the report’s findings and sharing her views on how this framework can help to reduce inequalities.
- Dr Dharam Uprety, Practical Action – Dharam will share his reflections on how resilient recovery can strengthen locally-led adaptation.
- Debbie Hillier, Mercy Corps – Debbie will be reflecting on the panel discussions and delivering closing remarks.
