Background

The ASEAN region and Japan are located along the Pacific Ring of Fire and face various disaster risks, including earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, and floods. In addition to their geographical proximity, the growing economic and people-to-people exchanges between the two regions have made ASEAN an increasingly important strategic partner for Japan. As the two regions continue to deepen their cooperation, knowledge-sharing in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and management has become essential for building resilience. With the continued economic growth of ASEAN countries, Japan's expertise and technology in DRR, once shared through traditional aid mechanisms, are now evolving into more collaborative efforts involving a diverse range of stakeholders, including government, the private sector, and universities/research institutions. In response to this changing landscape, this workshop will explore the potential for industry-academia-government collaboration to enhance disaster resilience in the ASEAN region, while proposing new approaches to achieving these goals.
