Indonesia: A decade after the disaster management legislation
The earthquake and tsunami on December 26, 2004 triggered awareness in Indonesia of the need for an improved disaster management system. In a relatively short time, civil society and the House of Representatives managed to formulate Legislation 24/2007 on the Management of Disaster, and the government has followed this with several regulations.
This event is a public discussion regarding the Legislation of 24/2007 on Disaster Management amidst the emergency response and early recovery in the aftermath of the deadly Lombok earthquake.
The aim of the discussion public is to:
- Review the 10 year progress in the implementation of the disaster management legislation in Indonesia, highlighting success, challenges, and room for improvement;
- Discuss challenges and possible solutions for improving the disaster management with a focus, but not exclusively, on the legislative process;
