Inclusive insurance for empowered communities: Turning challenges into opportunities

The Federación Ecuatoriana de Empresas de Seguros (FEDESEG), Junta de Política y Regulación Financiera (JPRF), and Superintendencia de Compañías, Valores y Seguros, in cooperation with the Munich Re Foundation and the Microinsurance Network, will host the International Conference on Inclusive Insurance 2025. The conference will bring together more than 80 speakers and over 400 participants. Delegates will represent a broad range of stakeholders, including insurance and reinsurance companies, brokers, distribution channels, technology providers, investment funds, international organisations, NGOs, development aid agencies, academia, regulators, and policymakers.

The conference programme will feature 24 sessions, including interactive workshops, plenary sessions, multiple parallel sessions, and will conclude with a field trip. 

Conference highlights at a glance:

Opening (Tuesday, 14 October): The ICII 2025 will be inaugurated by a high-ranking government official of the Government of Ecuador. Opening remarks will also be delivered by the President of Junta de Política y Regulación Financiera (JPRF); Superintendent of Superintendencia de Compañías, Valores y Seguros; Juan Manuel Merchán, President of FEDESEG; Renate Bleich, Chair of the Munich Re Foundation; and Matthew Genazzini, Executive Director of the Microinsurance Network. 

Plenary and parallel sessions: The sessions will explore a wide variety of topics with a focus on Latin America and beyond, including women's empowerment through inclusive insurance and bridging risk protection gaps, innovative business strategies and the use of technology in inclusive insurance.

Report launch: The Microinsurance Network will launch the 2025 Landscape of Microinsurance - Latin America and the Caribbean Report, presenting a detailed analysis of inclusive insurance trends in the region, alongside an interactive Data Hub and Resources Hub.

Pre-conference workshops: The workshops will provide opportunities for both newcomers and experienced practitioners to explore practical strategies for expanding coverage to underserved populations, from an introductory overview of inclusive insurance to in-depth discussions on regulatory incentives, agricultural insurance institutionalisation, and regional best practices.

Field trip (Friday, 17 October): Participants will visit a local association in Lloa, Ecuador, to see firsthand how inclusive insurance is implemented and its tangible impact on farming communities.
