About

Disaster risk reduction policies in the modern age have become a prevailing concern for nations and governing bodies globally. This concern has led to the rise of internationally recognized agreements and nationally-implemented policies which recognize that disasters are not only a product of natural threats, but are also largely influenced by governance decisions, assessments of underlying vulnerabilities, and relevant developmental choices made.

This webinar will highlight several issues with the governance gap between the commitments made by DRR policies and the key points at which they fail to deliver these commitments at local, national, and international levels. It will highlight how simple policy may be ineffective in bringing about lasting change that truly contributes to DRR and the importance of community-level understanding of policies and methods to integrate such frameworks into traditional and cultural contexts.
