Myanmar climate-smart agriculture strategy

Climate change has been causing adverse effects to Myanmar's agriculture industry and adding more burdens to the farmers. The late or early onset of monsoon season, longer dry spells, erratic rainfall, increasing temperatures, heavy rains, stronger typhoons and flooding are common climate events that have been occurring more frequently in the recent decade.

The Myanmar Climate-Smart Agriculture strategy encompasses the development of technical, policy and investment conditions to achieve sustainable agricultural development for food security and nutrition through climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture. Adopting agricultural practices that are able to withstand climate change requires the application of new technologies, the modification of existing ones, and the revision of relevant laws and policies.

By 2030, Myanmar aims to achieve food security, nutrition and climate resiliency and adaptation. This will be accomplished with a globally competitive agriculture sector that attains high productivity through climate-smart agricultural practices, resulting in higher standards of living, especially in the rural areas.
