Survey on volcano science in resource-limited contexts

Source(s): International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of Earth's Interior

We would like to invite volcano scientists who are working in resource-limited contexts (typically LMI countries) to participate in an online survey regarding their views and experience of integrating in the international scientific community.

The survey will remain open until 17th May 2019 and can be accessed here

This survey fits within the inaugural activities to launch a new community-driven network within the International Association of Volcanology and Geochemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI). The primary goal is to facilitate and encourage better integration of volcano scientists worldwide within the global volcanological community.

This survey is being undertaken in conjunction with a workshop, which will bring together senior volcano scientists from 22 different countries around the world, and which will be held 4-7 June at the University of the West Indies (Trinidad). The results of the survey will be integrated into the workshop discussion of the challenges and opportunities for undertaking volcanology research, monitoring and risk mitigation. Furthermore, the future priorities and envisaged activities of the new network will be drafted, and will then be taken to IAVCEI for formal inauguration.
