Open call for case studies of good DRR youth-led practice or action

Source(s): United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth, Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group

In recognition of the many community focused inspiring DRR work, the UN MGCY would like to invite youth/youth-led organizations to submit a case study of good DRR practice or action to be showcased at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) later this year. This short case study (200 words max) would provide some details on a particular project or activity that you or your organisation has carried out in the past or are currently involved in.

The UN Major Group for Children and Youth (UN MGCY) is the official and UN General Assembly-mandated space for young people to engage in various UN processes, including that relating to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. We are collecting case studies of strong youth-led DRR research and activities to celebrate the diverse contributions of children and youth in supporting the implementation of the Sendai Framework around the globe.

The case studies collected will be showcased through a summary of DRR-related work from and youth-led organisations at the 2017 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR), which will be held in Mexico from 22-26 May, 2017. The event offers an important opportunity to review progress made, plan the way forward towards the implementation of the Sendai Framework, and to share DRR good practice. Thus, through this showcase, we hope to highlight to Member States, UN Agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders the contributions of young people and demonstrate their potential as reliable development partners moving forward towards the implementation, monitoring and review of the Sendai Framework.

Apart from the summary work, we will also select some innovative and successful projects to present at different avenues during GPDRR through various formats such as oral presentations, poster presentations or video displays at the UN MGCY’s one-day pre-forum, side event and formal exhibition booth. As such, your involvement and contributions provides a great opportunity for you who have been active in contributing towards DRR in our local communities to showcase your initiatives at a global platform, and enable youth action globally to be celebrated.

If you are a youth or represent a youth-led organisation we would be very grateful if you could kindly fill this survey and share some short details of the amazing work being done in your community, by 1 May 2017.

Thank you in advance for your kind cooperation. If you have any questions about this initiative, please don’t hesitate to email us on drr.action@childrenyouth.org.
