About

Gender and Disaster Australia (GADAus) and Northern Rivers Women and Children’s Services (NORWACS) are pleased to mark this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence with an exciting, co-hosted event in Lismore, NSW (and live-streamed), on Thursday 8th December, 2022: "UNITED to End Violence Against Women".

We’re thrilled to announce that this event will include an address from both the Hon. Justine Elliot MP, Assistant Minister for Social Services and Assistant Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence, and Janelle Saffin MP, Member for Lismore. In keeping with this year’s theme, “UNITE! Activism to End Violence against Women & Girls”, the event will focus on the collaboration between GADAus and NORWACS to prevent and respond to violence against women in disasters, and specifically in the aftermath of the 2022 Lismore and Northern Rivers Region floods.

The event program will include first-hand accounts and insights from Lismore community members and local services, including NORWACS’ own observations in the aftermath of the floods. GADAus will speak to their research findings, training and resources on violence against women in the aftermath of disaster, with a focus on the strategies developed through GADAus’ and NORWACS’ collaboration.
