Global Rapid Post-Disaster Damage Estimation (GRADE): Venezuela Earthquakes

This Global Rapid Post-Disaster Damage Estimation (GRADE) report summarizes the direct economic damage to buildings and infrastructure assets caused by the earthquakes in Venezuela on June 24, 2026. This report provides critical insights to support response and recovery planning, as well as strategic discussions on risk reduction. The assessment does not consider the disaster losses or needs of the event, which could be assessed through future partner initiatives.

Results  from the report include: 

• The estimates are dominated by damage to buildings which account for over 73 percent of the total US$19.6 billion in damage.
• Macroeconomic modeling25 shows that the pace of reconstruction will play a decisive role in shaping economic and social impact.
• Social vulnerability to disasters cannot be understood through a single social characteristic such as age, income, or housing quality.
• The analysis finds that consumption losses may be concentrated among households with greater care needs, dependency, health constraints, or less secure forms of employment.
