Canada: Metro Vancouver dike improvements could cost $9.5 billion by 2100: new report
A new report titled 'Cost of Adaptation - Sea Dikes and Alternative Strategies' found that protecting the shore of Metro Vancouver from the effects of climate change induced sea level rise would cost at least $9.5-billion. This estimate includes design, project management, land acquisition, environmental mitigation, impacts on utilities and pump stations and earthquake-resistant construction methods, reports The Vancouver Sun. Improvement of early warning systems and the construction of a sea gate to break storm surges are also in the plans.
