The GFDRR South-South Cooperation Program (SSCP) announces a call for proposals 2009. SSCP is looking for innovative collaborations and partnerships among developing country organizations - government agencies, public institutions, networks, academic and civil society organizations - in disaster risk reduction. The program awards grants up to USD 500,000 to best proposals, selected through a two stage screening process. The deadline for applications is 30 June 2009.

The SSCP aims to facilitate collaboration and partnership among low- and middle-income countries. The goal is to expand knowledge sharing and build capacity to mainstream disaster risk reduction and recovery, including climate change adaptation, into development planning and programming. In order to foster regional and cross-regional collaborative arrangements and partnerships among Southern governments, academia, public, private, and civil society organizations, the South–South Cooperation Trust Fund (SSCTF) offers grant funding to partnerships covering one or more aspects of risk management, climate change adaptation, disaster mitigation, or recovery.

SSCP is organizing a side event during the Global Platform for DRR held in Geneva in June 2009. The objective of the meeting is to assist interested partners in preparing "winning proposals" by bringing together potential partners and with representatives from GFDRR Secretariat, WB and UN organizations work jointly on the objectives and scope of proposed partnerships.

The side event will take place on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 from 1pm to 2.30pm. Potential participants are requested to fill out the Expression of interest form attached to the Call for proposals document and return it to: by June 1.
