Nigeria: Experts call for proper monitoring of 'natural' disasters

Ngozi Sams reports on recent comments by officials and experts on the monitoring of natural hazards for the establishment of early warning systems in order to mitigate the impact of disasters.

"The recent outbreak of 'natural' disasters has alerted the world to the imperative of monitoring these events, in order to establish early warning system to mitigate their effects" said Mohammed Abubakar, the Minister of Science and Technology, in Abuja.

“Necessary measures should be adopted to review the country’s seismical with a view to monitoring any slight earth movements that may pose environmental threats to humans and property as being witnessed in many parts of the globe, especially the Asian continent.”
