Flood risk rampant across Asia's factory zones

The Thai floods affected about 1,000 factories globally, reports AlertNet. Yet, industrial parks are still being built in Asian flood zones. Insurance industry executives say that most construction was done without long-term historical data on floods and storms.

Swiss Re, a global reinsurer lists China as the country which has the number one flood risk in Asia. The problem is aggravated by the fact that in China there is no limit on the flood insurance claims. Furthermore, the risks has multiplied due to sea level rise, more intense storms and increase in precipitation paired with more people and infrastructure .
