Background

This training programme aims at developing trained medical administrators and professionals with an understanding on basic safety and preparedness concerns relating to disasters and emergency response. This will help in providing immediate and effective medical facilities at the time of need without putting the lives of those serving and being served, at risk. This is just a beginning of GFDR initiative towards ensuring a safe and disaster resilient environment at hospitals and nursing homes.

Expected outcomes of this training programme are


• To provide effective lifesaving health services during a crisis situation
• Uninterrupted health facilities within the disaster affected areas.
• Protection of health facilities to address emergency health needs of the affected population so as to minimize Social Impact.
• Basic understanding on Risk and Vulnerability Assessment of the health facilities in respect of their resilience to any emergency / disaster situation including the common emergencies like fire and bomb hazards inside the hospital building.
• Capacity to plan for Safe evacuation of Patients under Hospital Emergency Plan
• Awareness and enhanced capacity of medical administrators and professionals to make health facilities safe from possible emergency & disaster situations.

• Integrated Planning and Disaster Risk Reduction Strategies for Hospitals & Nursing Homes (Code – DMed 2)
• Hospital Safety & Medical Preparedness for Disasters (Code – DMed 3)
• Emergency Medical Service, Triage and Mass Casualty Management (Code – DMed 4)
• Best Practices and Lessons Learnt in Disaster Preparedness and Risk Reduction in Medical Sector (with Case Studies) (Code – DMed 5)
