Project officer (associated programme on flood management and climate and water department)

Duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Chief, Hydrological Forecasting and Water Resources Division, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
- Undertake all duties assigned to the APFM in the field of flood management policy and strategy
- Assume responsibility for the implementation of pilot projects under the APFM as assigned
- Contribute to the establishment of required organizational partnership with other major players in the field of flood
management for the activities under APFM
- Assume responsibility for capacity building projects for integrated flood management of major multipliers in the field of water resources development and policy such as international development banks, etc.
- Review and edit reports prepared by experts and other activities related to the work of the APFM
- Carry out other related duties, as required.

Qualifications

Education:
- Master of Science or equivalent in water resources management, hydrology, geography or related field.

Experience:
- At least three years of combined national and international progressively responsible experience in a waterrelated field.
- Experience working in an international organization.
- Knowledge of the activities of WMO or other United Nations agencies.

Other requirements:
- Ability to plan, organize and manage work programmes.
- Good analytical skills.
- Ability to write documents and reports.
- Maturity of judgement, initiative and sense of responsibility.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Languages:
- Excellent knowledge of English or French and a good working knowledge of the other language.
- Knowledge of other official languages of the WMO Secretariat would be an advantage.
