"Disaster is everyone's business," the Daily Observer quoted Musa Taal, who was speaking on behalf of the Lower River Region governor, at a ceremony where D108,000 was distributed among victims of the recent flash floods and windstorm. He also called on the communities to avoid settling on water-ways, in order to avoid the blockage of water ways.

At the same event, Lamin Saidy, the coordinator of the Lower River Region Disaster Management Committee (LRR DMC) called on the communities to involve themselves in disaster risk reduction adding that the LRR DMC will soon embark on community sensitisation so as to minimise man-made disasters in the region.
