Local wisdom: indigenous practices for mitigating disaster loss
This study aims to reinforce the use of indigenous practices and knowledge in local early warning systems, household water management, livelihood techniques and health and nutritional practices that help the population of Bangladesh to cope with hazards. The paper assesses opportunities, challenges and strategies for replication and scaling up of the indigenous practices in the region. It emphasizes that indigenous knowledge is a valuable source of information and can be a key contributor to reducing risk in local areas strengthening the capacity of households and communities to manage the effects of disaster and climate change.
