The Gambian Minister of Environment, Climate Change, Water Resources and Wildlife, has underscored the significance of a nationwide sensitisation programme to enhance public awareness on disaster mitigation, which initiative was also meant to give feed back on the recently ended 2015-2030 Sendai Framework on DRR adopted by UN Member States in Japan, reports the Daily Observer.

According to the article, the executive director of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), Lt. Col. Alhagie Sanneh, shared the report of the third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction held in Sendai, Japan, which took place from the 14th-18th March 2015. Here, the United Nations Member States adopted the successor arrangements to the Hyogo Framework of Action (HFA), referred to as the Post-2015 Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and a Political Declaration.
