A decision was taken at the 30th session of the IPCC (21-23 April 2009, Antalya, Turkey) to undertake the Special Report, following IPCC procedures and with the involvement of the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR). Slight modifications were made to the approved outline of the report.

A call for Lead Author and Review Editor nominations was issued to Governments and Observer Organizations on 25 May 2009. A password-protected nominations site was constructed to facilitate the process. Follow the link below if you have been provided the access information via the IPCC Secretariat, and seek to provide nominations by the 27 July 2009 deadline.

A Science Steering Group has been convened to evaluate Government and Observer Organization inputs to achieve the necessary disciplinary, gender, and regional balance required to undertake a comprehensive assessment.

Release of the Special Report is expected in the second half of 2011. A provisional schedule with major milestones is appended, but may be subject to change.
