Bonn: UN urges attention to security implications of climate change
A resolution calling on the UN organs to focus on the security implications of climate change was adopted on Wednesday by the UN General Assembly. It expressed concern that 'the adverse impacts of climate change, including sea-level rise, could have possible security implications.'
"We are of the firm view that the adverse impacts of climate change have very real implications for international peace and security," Nauru Ambassador Marlene Moses told the General Assembly, speaking on behalf of the Pacific Small Island Developing States which introduced the resolution.
"As the rest of the world continues to debate the security implications of climate change, for our peoples the problem is astoundingly real," Moses said.
