A new collaboration between GEO and Amazon Web Services (AWS) allows eligible parties to apply for AWS credits that will enable them to build Earth observations applications that support environmental and development goals. Applications are welcome for non-commercial projects that address the GEO Work Programme. The deadline for submissions is 31 March 2019.

The International Journal of Disaster Risk Management is a peer-reviewed quarterly journal that serves all aspects of disaster studies, policy, and management. The journal is seeking submissions, which will be blind peer reviewed and evaluated based on criteria outlined in the Guidelines for Contributors.

A graduate student has won a top international prize for developing a low-cost bamboo house known as CUBO, whose tilted roof captures rainwater and reduces heat gain, and whose stilts prevent flood penetration. The house also tackles the chronic shortage of affordable housing in the Philippines and will help reduce the amount of slum dwellers in Manila.

The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction is calling for innovative ideas and approaches for DRR to be showcased at its most prominent conference, the Global Platform. Innovation proposals must be submitted by 15 January 2019, and can relate to a number of areas, such as new methodologies to implement DRR, educational activities, and awareness-raising.

The fourth round of IRDR Young Scientists Programme applications is now open. The programme allows researchers to participate in research sessions, receive training, and receive DRR conference recommendations. The deadline to apply is December 31, 2018.

The Least Developed Countries Group is inviting submissions on effective long-term adaptation to climate change. The submissions will contribute to a major new initiative that seeks to develop a long-term vision for climate resilience up to 2050. The deadline is December 1, 2018.

The Risk KAN invites researchers to self-nominate for membership in the Knowledge Action Network on Emergent Risks and Extreme Events, in the Development Team (DT), and/or working groups. These groups are structured along with the establishment of the DT. As a central feature of the Risk KAN's plans, they allow for flexible, challenge-based networking.

The World Bank and the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery are inviting photographers to participate in a photo contest dedicated to building disaster resilience in Armenia. Participants must submit their entries by November 16. The top 3 entries will win cash prizes, and the top 10 will be featured on the World Bank website and other mediums.

BeSafeNet aims at sharing information on the nature, causes and consequences of disasters through the Internet and promoting a global risk culture. In this context, an international online competition between schools will take place on the theme “Better knowledge against disasters,” and is open to secondary schools in the 26 member states of EUR-OPA Agreement.

In order to develop ‘Pro-poor principles’ to guide the implementation of the InsuResilience Global Partnership, practitioners are asked to to submit responses as well as any relevant supporting material to the InsuResilience Secretariat by 16th of October, 2018.
