This Inter-Agency Standing Committee Sub-Working Group on Preparedness (IASC SWG on Preparedness) workshop will train humanitarian simulation facilitators with the purpose of creating a pool of trained cadres who are capable of supporting regional and national humanitarian experts in mounting an effective emergency simulation (IAES) at country level.

Objectives:
As part of the overall goal of establishing an inter-agency emergency simulation (IAES) mechanism, the course will enable participants to conduct the following activities:

• Simulation preparation – Participants will gain a detailed knowledge of the IAES package, including the overall planning, organisation and preparation of an inter-agency emergency simulation. Participants (in collaboration with senior country management and regional experts) will be expected to lead in the preparation of the simulation scenarios and injects to ensure that the simulation is tailored to the meet the stated objectives. In addition to the IAES package, participants will receive an overview of other types of simulations and exercises.

• Facilitation
– Participants will be expected to lead the overall facilitation of the IAES (together with regional or country experts), ensuring that injects and other planned actions are implemented in accordance with the simulation plan. Participants will also learn to ensure that key outputs, participant actions and reactions as well as best practices are captured during the course of a simulation for use in the de-briefing.

• De-briefing – Participants will be trained on how to lead the post simulation de-brief with the aim of ensuring that key gaps and outputs identified during the simulation are analysed and included as required into an after action report.
