GLOBE 2012 will be the 12th event in one of the world's largest and longest-running event series dedicated to business and the environment. Every two years, the world gathers in Vancouver for three days of thought-leading sessions presented by world-renowned sustainability experts, for the opportunity to see leading-edge environmental innovations, and to participate in unparalleled global networking opportunities.

Business leaders, corporate executives, NGOs, and government policymakers from around the world will meet in Vancouver to explore corporate sustainability and competitiveness, clean energy, climate change, sustainability in finance, and greener cities. A number of special sessions will also be offered addressing water, global emissions management, and greening the retail sector.

The global financial system is still recovering from the near collapse of the international banking system and major economic upheavals that have brought several countries to the brink of insolvency. In these uncertain economic times, financial institutions, venture capital firms, and governments have recognized the benefits of risk avoidance, responsible investment, insurance, and overall lending strategies that are focused on job-creating green projects, sustainable infrastructure, and clean technology. Recognizing the important role that the financial sector will play in the post-Kyoto world, this theme will explore the relationships between finance, sustainable development, capital markets, and the green economy.

Climate Adaptation: Building Resilience through Risk Management and Insurance

- How should companies and governments be preparing for the increasing risks from a changing climate?
- What financial tools are available to help with building longterm resilience and what insurance products exist to buffer against these risks?
This session will explore investment and insurance-related products and services that are designed to help organizations address climate change adaptation issues.

For other issues covered by the conference, please consult the preliminary program.
