Climate change research strategy for primary industries conference
Australia’s only dedicated primary industries and climate change conference will be a wonderful forum for researchers, policy makers, practitioners and farmers, showcasing the latest national and international research, policy and practices for primary industries in a changing climate.
This second CCRSPI conference will provide a unique opportunity for delegates to consider the impacts on primary industries of the recently-introduced carbon tax and current climate change research programs.
The debate will set the scene for planning future research, development and extension (RDE) strategies that support primary industries to grasp emerging opportunities from future climates and climate change policies. Delegates will be introduced to the new Climate Change Research Strategy for Primary Industries for 2012-2017 and its associated audit of existing climate change investment, to provide a context for communicating research, identifying cross-sectoral opportunities, and debating the effectiveness of climate change RDE throughout the remainder of the Conference program.
The preliminary program has been shaped around examining the big questions of how the country’s primary industries will adapt, mitigate and thrive in the face of these climate challenges. National and international RDE leaders will join delegates from across the industries and sectors for an engaging and challenging series of plenary sessions, contributed papers, panels and debates. The focus across the event will be on connecting research, government and primary industries sectors to develop collaborative approaches to climate change RDE.
The Conference is inspired by the success of the inaugural CCRSPI Conference in February 2011, when more than 300 delegates came together to build a shared vision on how science, industry and government could tackle the challenge of climate change. In 2012 CCRSPI will build on these networks to ensure that climate change research is better integrated both across this divide and between all sectors of agriculture, fisheries and forestry industries.
A draft Conference program will be available for viewing in June, with the abstract call made from June to July. A significant early bird price incentive will be available to those purchasing registrations prior October.
