At the Global Platform, the prestigious RISK Award went today to Dundee University and Resilience Solution for pioneering floating houses in Bangladesh. The houses are designed so that a family of six can survive floods and still produce their own food. The prize money will be used to help bring the project to scale in the flood-prone areas of Bangladesh.

IRDR has issued a Call for Chapters for an edited book titled, 'Integrated Research on Disaster Risks: Contributions from the IRDR Young Scientists Programme'. The book will be part of the Springer 'DRR: Methods, Approaches and Practices' series, and will examine research and actions in disaster risk reduction. Please submit abstracts by April 10.

African youths are invited to participate in a short essay contest on #TheAfricaWeWant. Entries, which should be submitted by 28 February, will be judged on the originality of ideas or proposals. Proposals should feature ideas that can have positive societal impacts for Africa either right now or in the future through actions taken via the AU Agenda 2063.

The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia invites submissions of original, unpublished papers on financing innovations for disaster risk management and climate change adaptation. Selected papers will be published in an edited book or special journal issue, and will also be presented at a workshop. Abstracts must be submitted by 15 February 2019.

A new collaboration between GEO and Amazon Web Services (AWS) allows eligible parties to apply for AWS credits that will enable them to build Earth observations applications that support environmental and development goals. Applications are welcome for non-commercial projects that address the GEO Work Programme. The deadline for submissions is 31 March 2019.
