Background
Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) was established in 1986 to support the advancement of safe communities and sustainable development, through implementing programs that reduce the impact of disasters upon countries and communities in Asia and the Pacific. ADPC’s well-established networks with government line agencies and strong partnerships with regional organisations and development agencies provide the foundation for their work. ADPC conducts training programs on Disaster Management, Emergency Public Health, Early Warning Systems, Nutrition in Emergencies and other components included in disaster preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery.

The Saudi Red Crescent Authority has recently initiated Saudi HEART (Saudi Humanitarian Emergency Aid and Response Team), an capacity-building program, with ADPC as its key collaborative partner. ADPC will contribute to building the capacity of SRCA in managing disasters both within the Kingdom and assisting countries in international disaster humanitarian response and recovery. This will be achieved by establishing and comprehensively training a Saudi Humanitarian Emergency Aid and Response Team.

ADPC seeks a communication specialist to develop an out-reach communications strategy, including social media component, as well as communication materials showcasing the program.

Roles & responsibilities:

  • Communications and Media strategy with key milestones, social media components, target persons to roll out strategy. The communication strategy should focus on (a) outreach communication to a wider public/global response community and (b) communication activities within the Saudi HEART, SCA. The strategy should include:
  • Communication materials, specifically:

- Banner (based on above developed templates)
- Program fact sheets (based on templates) and standardized Saudi HEART presentation
- At least 2 Communication materials (booklets, stickers etc)

  • Templates (used for branding and throughout the program) for

- Standard project press releases
- Promotional materials, including banner, program fact sheets, stickers, booklets
- Logo development and use of logo
- Layout of Website

Deliverable

  • Communication and media strategy document
  • Guidelines and templates for all communication materials
  • Approved logo
  • Draft website layout
  • Social media strategy document and accounts, if needed
  • Program fact sheet and standardized Saudi HEART presentation
  • Communication materials, including banner, stickers etc

Core Competencies and Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in journalism, communication, media and disaster management and/or training and capacity-building
  • 5-7 years progressively responsible experience in communication
  • Experience/ understanding of situation in the Gulf

Technical Direction / Supervisor:
The Communication Consultant work under the supervision of the Head of Public Health in Emergencies Department. He/She would work in close collaboration with program manager and other project team members in Bangkok and staff from the partner agency in Riyadh.
