Policy brief: Nordic perspectives on transboundary climate risk
This report makes recommendations on how Nordics can better address transboundary climate risks (TCRs) together. These include a joint research programme, raising awareness and engaging with the private sector.
Climate impacts can hit countries directly, as with floods and forest fires, but can also cascade over borders. As open economies, the Nordics can be exposed to TCRs. The study examines several food commodities in depth, including maize, rice, wheat and soy. It found, for example, that climate change affects sources of maize negatively, with risks outweighing opportunities by 28:1 – leading to higher prices or disturbances in supplies.
