Improving resilience to severe weather and climate change in the Philippines

This case study describes the partnership between the Met Office, the Philippine National Meteorological Service and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). It outlines the work the partnership undertook to improve weather forecasting, long-range climate predictions and early warning systems for typhoons in the Philippines.

The case study focuses on the use of forecasting models to track typhoons prior to their making landfall, the generation and analysis of high-resolution future climate simulations, and the development of regional sea-level projections. The project also focused on building capacity to utilise existing and future climate information by providing training activities and working with local government to develop processes to inform local planning and decision-making.
