Guidelines for rapid environmental impact assessment in disasters
These guidelines provide a tool to identify, define and prioritize potential environmental impacts in disaster situations, in order to permit quick identification of salient environmental issues in disasters and improve linkages between sustainable environmental management and disaster response.
For this purpose, it offers four modules on the following:
- Organization level assessment
- Community level assessment
- Consolidation and analysis of assessment results
- Green review of relief procurement
Developed as part of a collaborative effort of CARE International and Benfield Hazard Research Centre, University College London, the document is particularly useful for people directly involved in disaster response operations with a basic knowlege of the disaster managemnent process, but no background in environmental issues.
