Disability inclusive get ready guidebook 2022
This guidebook aims to promote disability-inclusive disaster risk reduction (DiDRR) and minimize the impact of disasters on individuals with disabilities. Nepal is susceptible to a range of disasters including earthquakes, floods, landslides, fires, lightning, hailstorms, droughts, and epidemics. Persons with disabilities, particularly those with severe disabilities, women, children, and senior citizens, are more vulnerable and disproportionately affected during such events.
To address this, the guidebook emphasizes the need to prioritize disaster mitigation and preparedness for persons with disabilities. It provides key recommendations, including the adoption of four-step plans for persons with disabilities and their caretakers, preparedness for the five major hazards in Nepal (earthquake, fire, flood, landslide, and epidemic), planning for emergency shelters, and raising awareness through capacity building and training. By following these recommendations, the guidebook aims to protect persons with disabilities from disaster risks and reduce the potential loss of life.
