Climate change and social justice
This book demonstrates that the problem of how to distribute the cost of climate change in the rush to avoid, or reduce its repercussions, is fundamentally a problem of justice. It warns against passing the additional burden of climate change on the poor and vulnerable.
The issue of justice in adaptation concerns the seventh chapter. It has two parts: an overview of the justice dimensions of vulnerability and adaptation to climate change, and then an example of the potential injustices that may arise as a result of efforts to promote adaptation in the small island state of Niue.
The book brings together today's key thinkers in climate research to respond to these important issues, covering a broad spectrum of issues (responsibility for climate change, intergenerational equity, health, environmental refugees, adaptation and equity in climate policy) from the likes of Ross Garnaut, David Karoly and Jon Barnett among others.
