The European Center for Forest Fires (ECFF) is accommodated and run at the headquarters of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection in Athens. The Center is administrated by two committees: the Administration Committee and the Scientific Committee. Both the Administration and Scientific Committees are appointed by the Government of the Hellenic Republic on the basis of proposals put forward by the Council of Europe.
ECFF was inaugurated in Athens, Greece in 2003. It operates within the framework of the Eur-OPA Major Hazards Agreement. The Center's primary goal is to assist European and Greek authorities with knowledge exchange and capacity building related to forest fire management. The Center looks at ways to better protect the public from wildfires, studies the impact of wildfire smoke on human health, and advocates concretely for the involvement of persons with disabilities in decision-making processes.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
