CIPRB was created in Bangladesh in 2004 to prevent accidents and injuries and to promote quality of life. Its mission is to prevent injuries by providing relevant information, methods and technologies. The guiding principles are conducting quality research, designing, implementing and evaluating interventions, disseminating information, and developing human resources. The overarching goal of the Centre is to reduce injury morbidity, mortality and disability in Bangladesh and in other developing countries.
CIPRB engages in capacity development within rural and urban communities in Bangladesh that encounter injuries and mass casualties during disasters. As part of their efforts to prevent and reduce disaster related injury, CIPRB works to educate the local community and provide training on risk identification and other life skills. In regard to emergency response, CIPRB also provides first aid to reduce the impact of injuries sustained in the disaster.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
