Before the flood: New York City is just beginning to gird for the '100-year storm,' if it's not already too late
In her article for Capital, Katharine Jose addresses a very real danger the city may be facing as a result of environmental changes already well underway: Sea-level rise. She points at the enormous amount of capital investment that has been made in areas that are vulnerable to sea-level rise and flooding, citing the World Trade Center site foundations being built in what is actually called the "bathtub," and named as the area of the city with the most "risk" by Professor Klaus Jacob of Columbia's Earth Institute. "You have to stop building more assets in a risky way in flood zones," Jacob said. "Start with avoiding bad things for the future."
