Météo, manteau neigeux et danger d'avalanches das les Alpes suisses: L'année hydrologique 2017/18
Cette publication fournit un aperçu des chutes de neige, des hauteurs de neige, des risques d'avalanche et des événements entre 2017 et 2018 dans les Alpes suisses. Il fournit une analyse de situation mensuelle tout en couvrant les mois d'été. Une section est consacrée à l'activité volcanique qui s'est produite pendant deux jours en janvier.
L'analyse conclut qu'après trois années maigres, l’hiver 2017/18 est un "véritable" hiver, tout au moins en montagne. Après un début précoce de l’hiver, c’était surtout le mois de janvier qui était caractérisé par des précipitations très abondantes, mais aussi par des records de douceur. Au cours de l’hiver 2017/18, les degrés élevés de danger ont été utilisés plus fréquemment que la moyenne pluriannuelle.
La publication aussi conclut qu'au cours de cet hiver jusqu’à fin juin, plus de 250 avalanches ayant provoqué des dommages corporels ou matériels ont été signalées au SLF. Au cours de l'année hydrologique 2017/18, 27 personnes sont mortes dans des avalanches, dont une en été (juin). C'est plus que la moyenne des 20 dernières années de 22 victimes. Lors de l’accident d’avalanche le plus grave de cet hiver, quatre personnes ont été tuées par une grande avalanche de glissement. Le SLF n’avait encore jamais enregistré un accident aussi grave lié à une avalanche de glissement.
